Book Review: The Woman and the Witch by Amanda Larkman

 

Wow, what a fantastic read this was. When I first started, I wasn't really sure I was going to get into it. By the second chapter, I was absolutely hooked! 

The characters were likeable and hateable in their own different ways. 

I related to Angie thanks to her problems with weight and weight loss and her almost addiction to food. It was great to carry on reading and see her come more and more out of her shell and turning into the confident happy person she deserved to be. 

The relationship between Angie and Freida was great, at times it was almost like they hated each other and just put up with each other because it gave them both the home they wanted. But then it turned into such a fantastic friendship when Freida realised that Angie was special and worth getting to know. 

I love the little extra detail of the ghosts that was added in, it seemed to add a little more spookiness to the book.

All in all, without giving to much of the story away, I would say run, don't walk to read this book. It was a lovely little read. Would definitely recommend.

Book Review: Playground by Aron Beauregard

Well, I'm not even sure where to begin with this book. It is definitely one I couldn't put down, but my god it was a bit disturbing. It's not very often where you find books which are based mainly on hurting and abusing children. 

It's safe to say that you shouldn't read this if you are easily offended or disturbed. Geraldine is in a whole other world of disturbed, from setting up the whole dangerous playground, to suffocating her own mother with her vagina. Not to mention her special hall of mirrors. We won't go into to much detail there though! I don't think I've ever disliked a character quite as much as I did her. I'm glad she finally got what was coming to her at the end. 

The children were a mix of likeable and unlikeable characters, for instance I loved CJ, Tanya and Donnie. But by the end of the book I couldn't stand Bobby, for obvious reasons. 

The Traps within the playground were pretty inventive, and I liked the fact that they were all based on or around things that would be within a normal playground. Although I think the use of slides and blades should have only have been used once rather then twice. Although they were done in different ways both times, the traps seemed a bit to similar for my liking.

If you don't like books with very gory details of sex, blood, gore and killing, then this is definitely not a book for you. However if you are a little bit warped in the mind like I am then you will probably find yourself reading it and then hunting out for more books that are similar to this one. 

This book definitely needs to be read with a trigger warning in mind due to the amount of child abuse and sexual content within in it. 

But all in all, I found it a great read and would recommend if you are in to this kind of thing.

A Wedding to Plan

 So, It's been a while. I sort of just left my laptop sitting downstairs and didn't really go near it. Every time I looked at it, I just couldn't be bothered. 

But since then, I've got myself back into gear. Nearly finished another book that I will do a review on after and also getting towards sorting out somewhere new for us to live. Although that's still all a bit up in the air at the moment. So more on that at a later date, when I can be bothered to go into detail about it.  

On another note, we have had our wedding ceremony booked since (I'm pretty sure) some time last year. So I thought we better get round to actually paying it off and sorting more of it out. We still need to arrange somewhere to have the reception, for which We have a couple of ideas. I spent a fair bit of today looking for rings. Turns out I am far more fussy than I thought I was as it took an overly long time to find something I even remotely liked at all. Luckily I seem to have found a his and hers set that Ryan also likes to, so that's handy!

Now it's just the issue of attempting to find all of the money for this, along with having a life, having somewhere to live and keeping on top of all the bills. I'm not really sure how to go about it all 😅

Here I go on another side note, good to know my brain is as scrambled as always. But Tate is doing fantastic back at school and getting on really well with his reading. We have had no complaints from him about school so far. Apart from the fact that one child that he annoyingly calls his friend, keeps pushing him and standing on his shoes so they fall off when they are playing games so that Tate can't beat him. Tate has apparently just started calling him a cheater and stopped playing with him as much. So that's a plus in a way! 

I've currently got an awful cough, my ribs are killing and chest hurts, I don't feel overly ill with it. I just can't stop my throat from tickling, which is causing me to cough every thirty seconds or so. It's driving me mad.

I'm on a mission from now on to stop drinking as much as I had been, I'm getting pretty good at just having a couple and then swapping to soft drinks when we are out and about for drinks. I'm bored of the hangovers to be honest. They aren't like what they were when I was younger that's for sure! 

So I think I may be starting to post a daily update of what I've drank and when so that I have more incentive to not drink as much in the first place. I'll use screen shots from my phone of the app I use for it, so that I can properly keep a record!

So on this random rambling post full of tangents, that has turned out to be less about the wedding I've got to plan then anything else... I am off...
